Our History
Over 120 Years In Robbinsdale
In May 1889, Mr & Mrs JP Shumway organized a Congregationalist
Sunday School, a precursor to our church.

Our Congregational Roots
- Robbinsdale united Church of Christ was founded in June of
1889, during the season of Pentecost, when Robbinsdale was Parker's
Station. We were the First Congregational
Church of Parker.
- There were 28 charter members. 21 of them were
women.
- In April of 1891, Parker's Station becomes
Robbinsdale, in honor of Andrew Robbins, a
Presbyterian who later joined our church, and the first mayor of
Robbinsdale.
- Our original building and parsonage were
located on the corner of Broadway and 42nd Ave. It
was dedicated May 24th 1891.
Our founders not only built RUCC, they built
Robbinsdale. They created town and church
concurrently.
- In April of 1961, our Church moved to its current
location. The present building was built in 2 stages.
First the Education building/Fellowship Hall, then later, the
Sanctuary.
- In recognition of the integral role music has played in
worship, members installed an organ in 1967.
- In 1987, to recognize our pride in being part of The United Church of Christ, the
congregation voted to change our name from First Congregational
Church of Robbinsdale to Robbinsdale United Church of
Christ.
- In 1992, RUCC votes to become Open and
Affirming to gay and lesbian people. In 2010, we
amended our statement to include bisexual and transgendered
people.
Information was gathered from A Ball of Butter, a Quest for
Light, a history of our church written by Gale
