The Community Outreach Ministry is responsible for educating and supporting church members in their ministries of social concerns in the community. They shall inform the congregation of the work of the UCC in the community. They shall advocate for peace, justice and diversity within the church and the community. They promote participation and gifts for local mission in the church; provide opportunities for members to engage in Christian social action.
Community Outreach ministry supports the following organizations:
Feeding the Hungry
PRISM (People Responding in Social Ministry)
PRISM provides families in need with food, financial assistance, transportation and other services in times of financial hardships. RUCC members gather food donations, raise money through fundraisers and volunteer to help support PRISM.
Dinner at Your Door
Northwest Suburban Dinner At Your Door provides meals to people who are homebound and unable to prepare food for themselves. RUCC supports Dinner at Your Door by donations.
Sheltering the Homeless
Families Moving Forward provides temporary emergency shelter, permanent affordable housing and supportive services to low income families with children. RUCC is one of the partner congregations that support families by opening our doors to house families for two to three weeks out of the year.
The mission of Home Free is “to provide battered women and their children with safety, support, and information so that they have an opportunity to explore alternatives to living with a violent partner.” RUCC supports Home Free through donations and an annual Mother’s Day fundraiser. In addition, our Quilting Group creates quilts to donate to women and children at Home Free.
